Review: Daft Punk - Get Lucky

I've been promising these reviews so why not go straight to the UK Number 1.

So Daft Punk are back with their new track Get Lucky and have shot right up to number 1, well done to them its been quite a long time since I heard any fresh Daft Punk content.

The first thing that I notice listening to this song, the style seems to be quite a lot different. at least until around two and a half minutes through the track their electronic sounding voice samples that they are so famous for seem to appear very well mixed in.

Overall its a very nice well produced track although coming from their old albums this feels a bit soft and dull to me. I've not had a chance to check out the rest of their album but I hope to do so soon.

Second Life - How People Run Their Businesses (The Wrong Way)

So my usual rants on here are directed against major game corporations. But no...

Today my problems are on a way smaller scale, but because of the small scale its actually personal. Which to me means a lot more than say "Blizzard nerfed my class QQ" this is more "I got fired..."

First and foremost I'd like to take a quote from the Second Life TOS.

Disclosing private Second Life conversationsSharing or posting a conversation inworld or in the Second Life forums without consent of all involved Residents is a violation of the Terms of Service.
NOTE: This does not include posting of chat to social media sites or other websites. Posting such logs on web pages, emailing them, or printing them out and posting them on utility poles in the "real world" -- are all actions beyond the scope of the Second Life Terms of Service. ; while that might be illegal, but those laws must be enforced by the proper law enforcement agencies.
"Conversation" means text that originally came from Second Life chat or Second Life instant messages. If it's totally unattributed, then it isn't considered disclosure. Additionally, Residents are not punished for sharing or posting a comment such as "Bob Resident said, 'You're the greatest!'"

This means I share my IMs unattributed,  not giving the names of the people involved and as one of those is myself I'll disclose my own name for reference. I think thats fair? If anyone sees this wrong and I am indeed in violation then please contact me and I'll resolve it.

Lets start with the basics.

I was a DJ at a club. I enjoyed playing there, I put in 6 hours of my free time every week to please its visitors. I felt like I was getting on with the other staff. I'd attend as many of their shows as I could.

Heres where things now change.

One week I'm feeling very under the weather, I'm ill, suffering from sleep deprivation, and to top it off, the club was empty. So I think to myself, I really need to get off of here now, no staff had turned up to host for me, I had no support. So I cancel the show mid broadcast, and log off. Later I log on to discuss maybe taking the week off, and due to the sleep deprivation even later in the week I ask to reduce my hours temporarily.

This has been taken as an absolute sin.

Now fair enough its his club, he can run it how he likes, but the attitude and the absolute bullshit to follow is what has gotten to me. I got told that I didn't get on with the other members very well, and that my proposed time was not good enough bla bla. I didn't feel this was a suitable explanation being that if the proposed hours weren't good enough then I should have been told and not just fired based on that decision.

So I go back for more, I wanted the truth. What I got, was bullshit. My text is in Blue, the club owners text is in Red.

I'm still unhappy about how i was dismissed, i feel there could have been simple ways to prevent it if communicated with properly
there was more to it than just that week and it was the "nice" way of putting it since you're so erattic
explain?id have rather been told the truth if that was the case
it's not do something and ask for forgiveness later it's acting and doing things professionally. that's how i conduct myself and that's how i expect my employees to conduct themselves.
if it was not just that week what other reason than that week is there?
first you charged [name] for an event the club was hosting before asking any of us when most of us on the bill were from hi-fi scene and yeah, she chose to pay you as there are stressors involved in business. you sent out a notice stating that your set was canceled a half way through your set because no one was there (many of us have performed to a crowd of one or none, if you're driven then you would seek out the interest of friends/people and audience). then the profile thing and then deleting me.
[name] paid me, i didn't ask for it, i didn't even use the tip jar. she just paid me, and i said thankyou and presumed everyone else was getting paid because she said "djs are getting paid for tonight"and the notice saying cancelled counts as the week still, and besides the point it wasn't directly because no one was there.

I'll stop here for a moment and discuss this point. The name in purple refers to a friend of the club who held an opening party to her shop. At the event while I was DJing she gave me 1200L and told me that DJs get paid. I said thank you and presumed that everyone else got treated the same. Obviously not, this seems to have been lied about. But sticking with tradition to this post... This was mid show.

So as you can see here, she put out a tip jar, it didn't work. I didn't care, I wasn't expecting to get anything from doing it anyway. I did it out of kindness and to help out a friend. She chose to pay me and thats that. But obviously thats not what has been told. After all this I have now sent back 800L and said "You will have 400 more when I have it" as I don't earn a lot and it was all I had. If someone's going to give me money then lie about it, they can have it back for all I care.

sorry, that's hard for me to believe since none of us had discussed that. i've known [name] for nearly a year now and she isn't out to screw anyone. you had asked her what the payment for the night was for and asked for 1200L.you can't sit there and criticize people and belittle them. that started prior to that week.you were logged in for your sets and logged out without asking questions about how things should be conducted. you'd rather have things done your own way or seen from your perspective and run with the ideas in your head rather than asking why things are conducted as so. it's a clash in work ethics. i had brought you in seeing as that you seemed pretty new to sl and you wanted a chance and i took that chance. instead of working as a team player as i thought you would, you decided to be erratic about your decisions and distance yourself off from everyone. no one was mad at you until you made everything out to be a big deal. for your information, running a business, especially this one that i've built does not cost a little penny...it's a lot of pennies equaling to more than $400 a month in USD.i run businesses and don't have time to be involved in dramatics.
I'd like to point out that I didn't just log in and out for my sets, there was a small time when i did as i would be playing on 2 hours of sleep and then returning to bed. But i tried to attend as many other djs sets as i could, and if i was doing something annoying it would have made sense to approach me about it... and please excuse me for 5 minutes im trying to get onto my laptop to find a chat history you may need to read for another settlement

I don't think I've ever been rude to anyone on SL and I always thought I got on with people, but apparently not.

you're right, i don't since i experienced your haste as well.you achieved all of that and got that out of me even though, for your sanity i was rather trying to play the politics. have a good night, a good life and best wishes to you in both here and in the real world.

So there it is. This post isn't to out someone as an asshole, I just need help clearing it up in my mind. Who is in the right here? I like to think that I am well within being decent here.

"I'm trying to run a business" To me he isn't doing a good job about it. In a real business if staff have a problem with another member of staff and this has been made aware to the person on charge, which by the sounds of things it was.

The person in charge should then take said member of staff (me) aside and discuss how people feel, and how we can resolve it. That is basically business 101. If you don't have the common sense to be able to do that then what the hell are you doing trying to run a business?

I have since removed all contact with this person, and I shall not be visiting that club again.

The disappointment of the dismissal in the first place was enough, but the crappy excuse i was given shortly after was not right, which made me pursue the real reason, and that still is horrifically wrong.

So please, if someone can help me clear this up. I'd really appreciate it.

5.2 Insane Guide

So I'm struggling to find any differences, so if there is something I haven't noticed please inform me and I'll correct it. But as far as I can see, no changes. The guide should still be up to date.

World of Warcraft Patch 5.2

And so World of Warcraft patch 5.2 is upon us.

It's currently 2:20 Server time, the servers have been down for over an hour and wont be up until the morning.

There's a few things that have taken my attention and I'd like to take a moment to talk about them if you would like to stick around while i relive the original reason for creating this blog.

First off... More frickin daily quests.

I wont lie, I'm going to be very honest here... But I haven't done any. I get told "you need to do your dailies to get better stuff"
If it means walking around in average less than great gear... I couldn't care less. I'm not doing dailies, It's a stupid thing to force people into them. That's that!

During my day, the incentive to do dailies was a Netherdrake or one of those other damn things who's name escapes me right now. Then the Sunwell server effort (I'll come back to this) which rewarded me some big title I had to pay gold for. Nothing was gated behind dailies.

Reputation on the other hand, yes. You needed to be Revered with respected factions in order to obtain keys to enter heroics, this was a fantastic retard mechanism. Because you would invite them into your group and the moment you got to the door and all of a sudden you are missing 3 dps, you knew there and then that you wouldn't have wanted them in your group anyway.

But here's the big difference between reputation then and now. Back then you could choose, "do I earn it questing or do I earn it dungeoneering" now you have to gain your rep by questing, no choice.

Wrath of the Lich King introduces reputation tabards, wear this tabard and any heroic will give you rep for what ever faction you want. Brilliant idea, extended into cataclysm including racial tabards too (yay for no more runecloth)

Come mop we should be moving forward not backwards.

I understand that this Isle of Thunder is supposed to be a server effort like sunwell was. Who knows it may be worth taking part in, but I for one seriously... Cannot be bothered anymore.

I did my dailies in sunwell, and I didn't do anymore until Trial of the Champions, which I might add I lost a lot of progress by merely faction changing, which caused me never to go back again. I tried my molten front, I wanted the achis but no. It's like a full time job. If you don't go in day in day out and put hours of work to it, you won't get what you want.

Anyway, moving on.

New Tier and Upgrade Removal

So there is a new Tier. This will be the first new Tier since Ulduar not to include new dungeons.

I'm not exactly sure if ZG and ZA count along side firelands as they come at a month or two difference? Not sure. But none the less this bothers me.

With the removal of Item Upgrades this leaves me in a difficult position. Gearing up new characters is what I do, I don't care for raids. I just level things all the time. The problem this leaves is that there will now be people running around in the same blues I have only better quality than what is available.

Inb4 "LFR"

Personally I'd rather excrete a Pineapple but each to their own I guess. For the next 5 days we will still be doing old content LFR until they decide to open the first section of the new raid. This bores me terribly, I wan't some 5 man dungeons to gear my alts, not a 25 man disaster.

Transmog Weapon Restrictions 

Here is a sore subject for me. Don't get me wrong for one moment that I'm not happy with the changes... Because believe me I really am. Although it was not quite what I was hoping for...

Let me get onto the subject of Legendaries for just one moment.

There is still no clear reason as to why Blizzard refuse to allow us to Transmogrify Legendary Weapons. I can understand if there is some kind of code writing issue if you are trying to perfect a way of transferring the weapons unique effects. For example the way my Legendary bow shoots magic arrows instead of normal. Or the awesome effect the Shadowmourne gives off.

But Blizzard, we can live without that for now. Of course it would be a bonus if that could be possible, but at the same time, we just want our weapon looks you get what I mean?

I'm still also not quite sure on the restriction on 0 stat items too, but I'll leave that for another day.

New PVP Season

I'll put it like this... The new sets look shit and all the same. Not much else to say really.

Class Changes That I Care About

I'll start off on a good note, I'm playing Paladin now... All I can see here is buffs, I'm not going into it, you can read them yourself. This pleases me really.

On the other hand, I also play Mage. And all I see is nerfs so I'm at a balance here.


To Finish Up

On a whole, I still very much dislike the direction this game has taken. I think Blizzard are making a very big mistake. QQ and so on and so on. In the last 2 years my bucket of care for this game has sprung a serious leak. I almost didn't even buy MOP. I bought Guild Wars 2 first.

I hate to say it, but If this new Tier isn't great. I think this games days are seriously numbered.

Toonstruck - 1996. One of the most expensive to make games of its time.

I'm just curious as to how many people here played this game? It was one of my favorites back in the day.

I wanted to start a completely new blog to start making Music/Song/Artist reviews. But after creating the page and looking at templates, I thought too myself "why don't I just alter the theme to Angry Space Goat instead" The idea I have is for more honest reviews, none of this suck up crap you read saying "Justin Bieber is brilliant" because we all know the truth, the only time I could ever say those words are in Quotation... Never to be quoted as my own words. I intend to be honest on my opinions. Another thing I wanted out of the new blog was to have people submit the names of songs/tunes/bands/artists that they wish me to review, and I'd add them to a list of to do. So, we shall see how it goes, only problem is I need something to start out with. -Professor Clutch
